What kind of substrate should be used in a pond with shubunkin goldfish and grow water lilies?


I would suggest none, and put the water lilies into pots, 3/4 full of potting mix with gravel on top to keep it in place.

That way you can add, remove, replace lilies as needed without messing up the pond.

    I used white gravel, this combined with 5 5gallon buckets full of mud from different local lakes, i think it really helped.
